Safety Towns & Camp Realeyes

To achieve our annual goals, it is critical that Realeyes expand partnerships beyond traditional schools. We have two new opportunities for volunteers this summer and we invite you to participate.

Sammy at Safety Town

Safety Town Realeyes

Did you ‘realeyes’ that the Safety Town Program originated in Mansfield, Ohio in 1937 and that the National Safety Town Center is in Cleveland? More than 3,500 communities nationwide host safety towns! Originally intended to focus on pedestrian safety for preschool students, the program has developed over the decades to include fire safety, bicycle safety, water safety and more. Programs in Ohio have been eager to include eye safety with the natural fit of Sammy Safe-Eyes!

Safety towns are often run through local townships, parks departments or schools and are scheduling their programming right now. Make connections in your community and help us by reaching out to participate. Realeyes will provide you with Sammy Safe-Eyes packets and stickers along with sunglasses for each child this summer! Email realeyes@ooa.org to help coordinate.

Camp Realeyes

Camp Realeyes

This summer we will pilot Camp Realeyes, a choose-your-own-adventure game designed for optometrists, teachers, or camp counselors. Featuring trivia questions, video clips, and special activities, it offers a unique educational experience for grades K-6th.

We are looking for summer camps to debut the program with or without a local optometrist doing the actual presentation. Email realeyes@ooa.org to participate!

Please help us in making these new connections in your community!
